Waste Sustainability

We believe it’s important to recycle any food waste we have here at Lazeez and use ReFood, who offer a sustainable alternative to sending food waste to landfill. Its makes both financial and environmental sense.

Here in the UK we send 15% more municipal waste to landfill than the average of 40% of the EU countries.

However, the renewable energy that is generated by ReFood’s AD plants, support the EU target of 15% renewable energy by this year (2020).

The good news is that the UK’s rate of recycling for household waste has increased from 44.6% in 2015 to 45.2% in 2016 and continues to increase.

Did you know that here in the UK we throw away 4.4 million apples every single day!

ReFood’s technology converts unwanted waste into renewable energy, which their London and Widnes plants supply direct to the National Gas Grid, and ReGrow, their PAS110 accredited nutrient-rich biofertiliser. ReGrow is an excellent supplement for enhancing soil health and fertility, making it great for food crops.

Food waste recycling with ReFood is the perfect way to lower our carbon footprint and costs. And their end-to-end service gives us here at Lazeez, peace of mind that we are disposing of food waste in the most sustainable way.

This video is an informative guide as to the whole process of picking up waste food from the restaurant to the end product.
